Buxtehude – lively city with a turbulent past Stadt mit bewegter Vergangenheit

Buxtehude, known as the Fairytale and Hanseatic City, is located in the holiday region "Altes Land on the Elbe River." The first documented mention of the settlement “Buochstadon” dates back to 959, and in 1285 the city was founded by the Archbishop of Bremen. It was the first German city to be systematically built around a central harbor basin and quickly developed into a lively trading town. Historic buildings such as the Fleth canal and St. Peter’s Church still shape the old town today. Vibrant city center and leisure activities
Buxtehude combines history with urban life. The picturesque city center invites visitors to shop and relax, complemented by family-friendly infrastructure with diverse sports and cultural offerings. An extensive network of cycling and hiking trails, along with a direct S-Bahn connection to Hamburg, further enhances the city’s appeal. Sports, culture, and attractions
Sports enthusiasts have numerous options: Heidebad, indoor swimming pools, and sports clubs offer a wide range of activities. The Estering Buxtehude is a well-known rallycross racetrack. Culturally, the city hosts festivals, theater performances, concerts, and the Buxtehude Museum with interactive exhibitions. City tours and excursions along the Este River provide engaging experiences. Economic significance
Buxtehude is an economically dynamic location with companies from various sectors, from mechanical engineering to aerospace technology. Hochschule 21 trains skilled professionals and strengthens the regional economy. The city combines tradition with innovation, offering businesses attractive opportunities for establishment and growth.
