Since its premiere in 1996, the Cyclassics have been inextricably linked with Hamburg and have firmly established themselves in the Active City's calendar of events. Thousands of enthusiastic spectators transform the streets of the Elbe metropolis into an atmospheric cycling festival: entirely in the spirit of the Active City, which places exercise, health and community at the centre of the event.

District of Stade

Just outside the gates of Hamburg lies the Altes Land on the Elbe – Northern Germany’s largest fruit-growing region.
The ADAC Cyclassics route runs right through it: past blooming orchards, historic half-timbered houses, and along endless dikes with wide views of the Elbe. Whether you're here for a day trip or a longer stay, this region offers a perfect blend of natural beauty, Hanseatic history, and rural charm.

An ideal destination for those who want to combine activity and relaxation – on foot, by bike, or while enjoying a peaceful break at a local farm café.

Buxtehude – the Hanseatic city where vibrant culture meets a rich historical legacy

Buxtehude, known as a fairytale and Hanseatic town, is located in the "Altes Land am Elbstrom" vacation region. The first documented mention of the settlement "Buochstadon" dates back to 959, and the town was founded by the Archbishop of Bremen in 1285. It was the first German town to be built around a central harbor basin and quickly developed into a lively trading town. Historic buildings such as the Fleth and St. Peter's Church still characterize the old town today.

Buxtehude combines history with urban life. The picturesque town center invites you to store and enjoy, complemented by a family-friendly infrastructure with a wide range of sports and cultural activities. An extensive network of cycling and hiking trails and the direct S-Bahn connection to Hamburg make the town even more attractive.

There are numerous opportunities for sports enthusiasts: The Heidebad swimming pool, the "Aquarella" indoor pool and sports clubs offer a broad spectrum. The Estering Buxtehude is a well-known race track for rallycross. Culturally, the town offers festivals, theater, concerts and the Buxtehude Museum with interactive exhibitions. Guided tours of the town and tours along the River Este provide exciting experiences in nature and history.

Harvest in the Altes Land

In late summer and autumn, the fruit harvest shapes the landscape of this holiday region.

A visit to one of the traditional apple festivals offers not only delicious treats, but also a glimpse into the unique fruit-growing culture – and the warm hospitality of the region.

Farm shops and regional cuisine

Numerous local producers offer fresh fruit, juices, jams, and regional specialties.
Many farms also feature cafés where you can take a break and enjoy homemade cakes, apple tarts, or traditional Altes Land wedding soup.

A tour through the Altes Land on the Elbe is also a journey for the taste buds.

Cultural Autumn on the Elbe

In autumn, the region transforms into a stage for cultural events:
Concerts in old barns, art exhibitions in manor houses, and readings in cozy cafés turn the Altes Land into a cultural insider tip away from the big city.

Fruit blossom as the season opener

Not in autumn, but definitely worth mentioning: the fruit blossom in April and May is one of Northern Germany’s most spectacular natural events.
